From Teacher to Outstanding Teacher to Leader: Your Personalised Path to Excellence

Every teacher’s journey is unique. Your strengths, challenges, career aspirations, context, and learning style differ from every other educator. So why would you accept generic, one-size-fits-all professional development?

Academica Mentoring’s Coaching & Mentoring Programme offers something radically different: 12 completely tailored sessions designed exclusively for you, addressing your specific needs, accelerating your unique career trajectory, and transforming you from wherever you are now—whether newly qualified teacher, experienced classroom practitioner, or aspiring leader—into the outstanding educator and leader you’re capable of becoming.

The Power of Personalisation

Generic courses deliver generic results. Mass training programmes teach to the middle, leaving some bored and others lost. They address average challenges, ignore your specific context, and provide solutions that may or may not apply to your situation.

This programme is different. Before your first session, we conduct comprehensive assessment understanding:

  • Your current teaching practice strengths and development areas
  • Your career aspirations (classroom excellence? Middle leadership? Senior leadership? Consultancy?)
  • Your specific challenges (behaviour management? differentiation? workload? leadership skills?)
  • Your context (key stage, subject, school type, student demographics)
  • Your learning preferences (theoretical frameworks? Practical tools? Reflective practice?)

Every one of your 12 sessions is then designed specifically for you. No wasted time on irrelevant content. No generic advice. Just laser-focused development addressing exactly what you need to progress to your next level.

Who Is This Programme For?

Early Career Teachers (ECTs): Surviving your first years is challenging. This programme accelerates your development from struggling beginner to confident, effective practitioner, establishing sustainable habits from the start and avoiding the burnout that claims so many new teachers.

Experienced Teachers Seeking Excellence: You’re competent, perhaps good. But you know you’re capable of outstanding practice. This programme identifies what’s holding you back, refines your pedagogy, and elevates you to the exceptional level you aspire to.

Teachers Aspiring to Middle Leadership: You’re ready for Head of Department, Key Stage Coordinator, or Subject Leader roles but need to develop leadership skills alongside teaching excellence. This programme prepares you comprehensively for these responsibilities.

Middle Leaders Targeting Senior Leadership: You’re leading a department or year group and ready for Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Head, or Headship. This programme develops the strategic thinking, whole-school perspective, and leadership competencies required.

Teachers Considering Career Change: Whether moving into consultancy, training, curriculum development, or educational leadership outside schools, this programme helps you leverage your teaching expertise in new directions.

The 12-Session Journey

While every programme is customised, most follow this general arc:

Sessions 1-3: Assessment and Foundation

  • Comprehensive teaching practice observation and analysis
  • Identification of strengths to leverage and development priorities
  • Goal-setting for the programme and beyond
  • Establishment of personalised development plan

If you are not pursuing leadership, these three sessions go deeper into your own priority areas instead.

  • Strategic planning and whole-school thinking
  • Change management and influencing skills
  • Communication, delegation, and accountability

Sessions 10-11: Integration and Application

  • Problem-solving for emerging issues
  • Advanced techniques for sustained excellence

Session 12: Reflection and Future Planning

Your Expert Coach

Coaching in education, charity leadership and business is led by Mohamed Sidat (BA, MA, PGCE, NPQEL). Other specialisms are covered by our associate coaches. You’re not assigned a random mentor. Academica carefully matches you with an expert coach whose experience, expertise, and approach align with your needs and goals. Your coach will have:

  • Proven excellence in teaching and/or leadership at the level you’re targeting
  • International experience providing global perspective on best practice
  • Specialised expertise in your subject/phase/context where applicable
  • Coaching qualifications and extensive mentoring experience
  • Track record of successfully developing educators at your career stage

The Academica Difference

Global Perspective: Your coach draws on international best practices from high-performing education systems worldwide, exposing you to innovations and approaches impossible to access locally.

Research-Informed Practice: Every strategy taught is grounded in educational research and proven in practice, not based on opinion or tradition.

Practical Implementation: Sessions balance discussion with action you’ll always leave with concrete next steps, resources, and tools ready to implement immediately.

Flexible Delivery: Sessions can be conducted in person (if geography permits), via video conference, or hybrid—whatever works for your schedule and preferences.

Confidential Space: Your coaching relationship is confidential, creating safe space to explore challenges, admit struggles, and take risks without judgment. The only exceptions are where there is a safeguarding concern or a legal duty to disclose.

Career-Long Impact: The skills, knowledge, and habits developed through this programme benefit you throughout your entire career, compounding returns over decades.

Investment and Returns

The 12-session programme represents significant investment in your professional development, an investment that pays extraordinary returns:

Financial Returns:

  • Increased earning potential through promotions. Under the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document for 2026/27, middle leadership is usually rewarded through a Teaching and Learning Responsibility payment: TLR2 ranges from £3,651 to £8,913 and TLR1 from £10,531 to £17,819, while the leadership pay range runs from £53,586 at its lowest point to £148,829 at its highest, against an upper pay range maximum of £52,835 for classroom teachers (figures for England outside London; London scales are higher)
  • Enhanced tutoring/training income through refined expertise
  • Career longevity avoiding burnout and expensive career changes

Professional Returns:

  • Faster progress towards your next role
  • Enhanced reputation and opportunities
  • Increased confidence and competence
  • Better student outcomes and job satisfaction

Personal Returns:

  • Reduced stress and workload
  • Improved work-life balance
  • Greater career fulfilment and purpose
  • Model of excellence for colleagues and students

Success Stories

These are the words of individual participants. Results vary, and depend on your own circumstances and effort.

“When I started the programme, I was a struggling NQT considering leaving teaching. Twelve sessions later, I’m a confident, effective teacher who actually enjoys my job. My mentor helped me develop systems that cut my workload in half while my students’ results improved dramatically.” – Emma, Primary Teacher (Year 2 of teaching)

“I’d been teaching for 15 years and felt stuck. The programme helped me refine my practice, develop leadership skills, and within 18 months I was promoted to Assistant Head. The personalised coaching was transformational.” – James, Secondary History Teacher (now Assistant Headteacher)

“As a Head of Department overwhelmed by responsibilities, the programme taught me to delegate effectively, develop my team, and think strategically. I’m now Deputy Head and loving the challenge.” – Amina, Science HOD (now Deputy Headteacher)
