Alternative Provision in Leicester for Schools and Local Authorities

Raedan Institute offers part-time, small-group placements in English, Maths and Science for pupils who need something different for a while. We work with schools, academies and local authorities across Leicester and Leicestershire.

Who our placements suit

  • Pupils at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion who need a fresh start in a smaller setting
  • Pupils whose attendance has broken down and who need a stepping stone back into learning
  • Pupils who have fallen behind in English, Maths or Science and need intensive catch-up
  • Year 11 pupils who need focused GCSE preparation

What we offer

  • Up to 12 hours a week: Monday to Wednesday, 9:30am to 1:30pm, term time
  • English, plus Maths and Science taught with practical IT skills through our Tech Studies programme, from Key Stage 1 to GCSE and A-level
  • Small groups, with every pupil assessed on entry
  • AQA approved examination centre (25369), so pupils can be entered and sit exams with us by agreement with the school
  • Access to the wider support of the charity, including sport, counselling and family support

How we work with commissioners

  • We are a part-time provider. We are not a registered independent school and we do not provide full-time education.
  • The pupil stays on the roll of the commissioning school, which keeps overall responsibility for their education, attendance and safeguarding.
  • Every placement starts with a written agreement covering the pupil’s needs, objectives, length of placement, review dates and the plan for returning to school or moving on.
  • Placements are time-limited and reviewed regularly with the school.
  • We are not able to accept pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan, or looked-after children, because we are a part-time setting and not a registered school.

Safeguarding and quality assurance

  • Named Designated Safeguarding Lead and trained deputies
  • Enhanced DBS checks for all staff and volunteers working with children
  • Safeguarding, health and safety and other policies available to commissioners on request
  • Commissioners are welcome to visit before and during any placement
  • We work to the Department for Education’s voluntary national standards for non-school alternative provision.
